This study examined the psychometric properties of the Basic Psychological Needs Satisfaction Scale for Coaches (ESANPE), which measures 4 dimensions: perceived competence, autonomy, affiliation, and usefulness. We administered the scale to 506 coaches and conducted a confirmatory factor analysis. Nomological validity was analyzed through the relationship between need satisfaction and motivations. The model showed a good fit to the data. The needs were distinguished by the coaches and showed characteristic relations with the motivations that generally conformed to the tenets of Self- Determination Theory. The scale showed similar levels of adjustment to other scales used to measure athletes’ need satisfaction. The perceived usefulness was a valid and reliable factor that could be used to study both coaches and athletes. The ESANPE scale demonstrated adequate psychometric properties for being used as a measurement too
