Ratherius, bishop of Verona, was a very learned writer. His style is sophisticated, and his readings countless. His masterpiece, entitled Praeloquia, has been printed several times from a single manuscript : Valenciennes, Bibl. mun. 843, lastly by P. L D. Reid (1984). In order to improve the comprehension of this book, new readings of the codex unicus, new textual conjectures and new identifications of Ratherian sources are proposed. Anonymous quotations are now attributed to Pseudo-Cato, Ennodius, Haymo, Servius, Smaragdus, Stephanus Leodiensis, and others
