Un dialogue placé sous le nom d’Augustin. Le Liber contra hereticos trinitati derogantes
Edition of a disputational dialogue on the Trinity between a heretic and Augustine. The Latin text, comprising sixty-two questions and answers, is edited based on three German-origin manuscripts and is listed in a medieval library catalogue dating to around 1200. Compiled from about a dozen sources, the text was likely created in Saxony during the latter half of the twelfth century. Structurally, it is related to two other anonymous dialogues, Co…

Une allocution d’Augustin pour la fête de Cyprien
Noting how an hypothesis can turn into a truth simply by being repeated, this article examines carefully the basis for the date normally given for this sermon and the frailty of the textual tradition that is the basis for the Morin edition of this sermon. After a careful analysis of the factors that might help to date it, it is assigned an uncertain date. It remains, however, plausible to think that it was delivered ad mensam Cypriani. The analys…
Deux anciens sermons latins pour la fête de saint Vincent
Edition and commentary of two late-antique Latin sermons about Vincent martyr, generally considered as Augustine’s works. The first one, s. Caillau 1,47 (277A), present at least in 39 manuscripts, could be authentic, but seems too short to be complete. The second one, s. 276, existing in more than 140 copies, has been published according to three versions, among the works of Augustine, Faustus of Riez and Pseudo-Fulgentius. The primary version is…

Comment récupérer une relique ? Un cambriolage à la collégiale de Boulogne en 1133
A text, transmitted in three witnesses from the seventeenth century, narrates a conflict that occurred in the year 1133 between the clerics of Thérouanne and those of Boulogne. The former accused the latter of having stolen, in 1083, their patron saint Maximus’ head, when that sacred relic had been temporarily sheltered in Boulogne. The story, full of details, relates how a team from Thérouanne broke into and entered the church of Boulogne in ord…
Semeurs et moissonneurs dans la prédication évangélique. Édition du Sermon Wilmart 20 (101 auct.) d’Augustin
Augustine’s Sermon 101, according to the Maurist numbering, was completed in 1930 by André Wilmart, whence it is now referred to as Wilmart 20 or 101 auctus. Its tradition is poor, and no copy gives its entire text. The present edition is the first to use five manuscripts, particularly the Mainz homiliary (Mainz, Stadtbibliothek I 9). The sermon, which explains Luke 10, 2-6, was preached in a Carthaginian basilica, between 397 and 401, not long a…

Pour mieux lire les Praeloquia de Rathier
Ratherius, bishop of Verona, was a very learned writer. His style is sophisticated, and his readings countless. His masterpiece, entitled Praeloquia, has been printed several times from a single manuscript : Valenciennes, Bibl. mun. 843, lastly by P. L D. Reid (1984). In order to improve the comprehension of this book, new readings of the codex unicus, new textual conjectures and new identifications of Ratherian sources are proposed. Anonymous qu…
