Augustine’s Sermon 101, according to the Maurist numbering, was completed in 1930 by André Wilmart, whence it is now referred to as Wilmart 20 or 101 auctus. Its tradition is poor, and no copy gives its entire text. The present edition is the first to use five manuscripts, particularly the Mainz homiliary (Mainz, Stadtbibliothek I 9). The sermon, which explains Luke 10, 2-6, was preached in a Carthaginian basilica, between 397 and 401, not long after Augustine was ordained as bishop. It criticizes the too literal explanations of the gospels
