Introduction Dans un article publié en 1967 (Horton 1967), j’avais étudié les similitudes et les différences entre les modes de pensée de l’Afrique et de l’Occident, en voyant dans l’Afrique le modèle vivant de la « traditionalité » et dans l’Occident le pionnier de la « modernité ». D’entrée de jeu, je m’étais référé à la proposition largement ignorée de Durkheim, qui veut qu’il existe une continuité entre la pensée spiritualiste des cultures traditionnelles africaines ou autres et la pensée
