Of the 112 epigrams composed by Posidippus of Pella and preserved in the anthology P.Mil. VIII 309, six refer to victories achieved by members of the Ptolemaic dynasty. A careful analysis of these epinician poems and the proposal of new identifications for the individuals celebrated, in particular the protagonist Berenike (Phernophoros), allow new perspectives on the political, ideological and diplomatic activities of the Ptolemies during the first half of the 3rd century BC
