In the shifting geopolitical relationships exemplified by the BRICS formation, transnational flows of media content, capital and human resources are already displaying new emerging South-South trajectories. In 2002, an amendment to the Constitution in Brazil allowed foreign investment in Brazilian media companies, following which partnerships with companies from the US and Europe were established. From the increased interpenetration of media capital, the increased amount of coverage and the debates in the media about the BRICS formation in the respective member countries, it is clear that the shifting geopolitics will increasingly be mirrored on media platforms. The emergence of BRICS as a construct seems to have led to an increase in attention to other member states in the media of these respective countries. In Brazil, coverage of the BRICS countries tends to focus on political and economic matters, with little attention to social and cultural aspects
