It is misleading in itself to treat 'white-collar labour' as an undifferentiated category, and the overall expansion of the white- collar sector in the capitalist societies conceals differential rates of growth in various occupational sub-categories. Whereas the relatively early enlargement of the white-collar sector mainly concerned the growth of clerical and sales occupations, in neocapitalism those occupations usually grouped by census statisticians as 'professional and technical' labour show the highest recent rates of development — although these nowhere comprise any more than a fairly small minority of white-collar workers as a whole....KeywordsMiddle ClassProductive LabourCollective WorkerCapitalist SocietySocial DivisionThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
