The author considers the decline of morality in the United States and elsewhere and the loss of a sense of the common good. He questions why this has happened and how transactional analysis (TA) can help in correcting it. His contention is that TA can help us better understand our psychological makeup and functioning and foster an accurate interpretation of the message of the Judeo-Christian tradition, which leads to moral behavior and a desire to pursue the common good. This is his personal interpretation based on his study of both the Judeo-Christian tradition and transactional analysis
