Walton is Associate Professor of Intelligence Analysis at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. A graduate of the College of William and Mary, with a Ph.D. in Modern European History from the University of Virginia, he was a political analyst with the Central Intelligence Agency from 1982 until his retirement in 2006. His experience includes an assignment to the Office of Secretary of Defense to support the implementation of the Dayton Peace Accords in the Balkans, and service on the Faculty at the CIA's Sherman Kent School of Intelligence Analysis. Dr. Walton is the author of Challenges in Intelligence Analysis: Lessons from 1300 BCE to the Present (New York: Cambridge University Press, 2010)
