Drake is Professor of History and Chairman of the History Department at the University of Montana, Missoula, where he has taught since 1982. Holder of a Ph.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), he previously taught at UCLA, the University of California at Irvine, Wellesley College, Princeton University, and New York University. In 1996, the University of Montana named him the Distinguished Scholar of the year. Dr. Drake has written extensively on political extremism in Italy. Among his numerous books are The Revolutionary Mystique and Terrorism in Contemporary Italy (Bloomington and Indianapolis: The Indiana University Press, 1989); and The Aldo Moro Murder Case and Apostles and Agitators: Italy's Marxist Revolutionary Tradition, published by Harvard University Press, Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1995 and 2003, respectively. His articles and book reviews have appeared in The Political Science Quarterly, The Journal of Cold War Studies, Terrorism and Political Violence, The Journal of Modern History, and The Journal of Modern Italian Studies, among numerous others
