Long involved in security matters, he is the author of The Angel: Ashraf Marwan, the Mossad and the War of Yom Kippur (in Hebrew, 2011, 450 pages) and The Watchman Fell Asleep: The Surprise of Yom Kippur and Its Sources (in English, Albany, NY: State University of New York Press, 2005), which won the Chechik Prize in 2001, and the Israeli Political Science Association Best Book Award in 2002, and upon which the television docudrama "The Silence of the Sirens" was based. Professor Bar-Joseph is also author of Intelligence Intervention in the Politics of Democratic States: The USA, Britain, and Israel (University Park, PA: The Pennsylvania State University Press, 1995), which won Choice's Outstanding Academic Books Award for 1996; and The Best of Enemies: Israel and Transjordan in the War of 1948 (London: Frank Cass, 1987). His numerous articles and book reviews have appeared in dozens of journals and other publications worldwide
