The paper presents the results of a recent survey of the views of three cohorts of BA Media and Communications graduates (1996, 1997, 1998) from Goldsmiths College on the professional and personal implications of their university education.Summary of main findingsThe survey found that: most students enter the programme well informed about the purpose and nature of their studies; students want to use the degree to gain more practical experience before deciding on their careers; 98% are now more aware of current debates about the implications of the media and products and 83% are committed to a personal engagement with these debates in the future; 66% think their critical theoretical work continues to make an informed contribution to their current professional practice; 81% are now working in their preferred field with 78% in production and related fields; 53% are now working in an area of production new to them at university; 94% of those who undertook work experience have the jobs they want; 64% intend to use their practice skills for pleasure in years to come
