Kenneth MacMillan created scenes of non-consensual sex several times in his career. This article fleshes out the dramaturgical strategies behind those scenes, dissecting how MacMillan integrated them in the plot of his ballets and how he staged them. Additionally, it contextualizes them within the stage context of their time. The analysis of four ballets, The Invitation (1960), Mayerling (1978), Different Drummer (1984) and The Judas Tree (1992), shows how far MacMillan’s artistic choices evolved across the years 1
