This review is a critical examination of Mogenson's The Dove in the Consulting Room: Hysteria and the Anima in Bollas and Jung. It notes the important observation that there is a resurgent interest in the idea of hysteria in psychoanalytic writing. Following upon this observation is the idea that hysteria is resurgent in reaction to the profound positivizing tendency in psychoanalytic thought. The importance of Mogenson's argument is explicated and a critical examination of some of his assumptions is offered
