This article is an introduction to issue 13 of the journal Studia Litteraria et Historica, devoted to nationalism and conceptions of nation developed in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe, as well as to their influence on the contemporary social, cultural and political life of the region, particularly on issues of migration and frontiers – both territorial and chronological. The introduction outlines connections between, on the one hand, the conception of nation rooted in the ideology of volkism and, on the other hand, images of home and native landscape, fantasies about blood and land, and the constructs of national duty and obligation, often directed against minority groups. Presenting the articles included in this issue, the introduction raises the question of collective action and thinking without nationalism, without the category of nation, and without the violence stemming from this category
