The 2023–2025 ongoing, accelerated genocide in Gaza prompted all sectors of society to rise in opposition to the Zionist settler colonization of Palestine. One significant moment in organizing that began on Turtle Island but spread across the globe was the creation of the Popular University, where students led encampments on their universities to push for divestment from the Zionist entity. In this piece, I argue that the Popular University student encampments utilized translocal pedagogy to deploy critical communication pedagogy (CCP) and communicate hope in localized ways consistent with the broader Student Intifada. Analyzing how CCP presents itself in activist contexts, I highlight how CCP is disseminated through a national, turned international student movement and how students introduced critical communication through organizing, maintenance, and community-building in their encampments. I close reflecting on how this moment recontextualized hope in genocide, and what the fight for a stop to the genocide and a free Palestine entails. This piece is dedicated to all of the student organizers who have been targeted, harassed, punished, and banned for standing for radical justice and liberation across the globe. Free Palestine
