The self‐esteem and self‐confidence of single adults seeking dates or mates in three date‐meeting environments—bars, singles clubs, and personal advertisements in newspapers—were investigated. No significant differences in levels of self‐esteem or self‐confidence were found among date seekers who used only one of these three meeting environments. However, date seekers who used two or more environments for meeting people had significantly lower levels of self‐esteem than date seekers using only one environment. Respondents who frequented singles bars plus used newspaper advertisements had significantly lower self‐esteem than respondents who used clubs, bars, or clubs plus bars. Levels of self‐confidence were also significantly lower for persons who employed clubs plus newspaper advertisements. No significant differences were found in respondents’ levels of satisfaction with seeking dates via these three meeting environments
