The agreement between the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) and the Balcarce Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIB) has the objective of knowing the urban entrepreneurs’ socioeconomic situation in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. The present exploratory research focuses on the strategies followed by food merchants. Through online and face-to-face surveys developed from September to December 2021, we have systematized and analyzed 67 complete business questionnaires about the profile of the businesses, commercial strategies implemented during the pandemic, and links with local or regional food production. The results show heterogeneity situations: new stores (pandemic effect), companies that have grown, and others that barely resist the activity with high fixed costs. Local products in shops are scarce, showing the need to implement policies that promote the exchange between local producers and merchants
