With the variety of paths that teacher education students take to arrive at a physical education teaching education (PETE) doctoral program, scholars have indicated that hands-on guidance is important for the learning process. Providing and receiving mentoring offers doctoral students the opportunity to learn about expectations in teaching, research, and service, and reduces student attrition. This article describes one university's doctoral program use of Yob and Crawford’s mentoring framework to enhance doctoral student development. The conceptual framework for mentoring contains two domains: academic and psychosocial. The academic domain contains four subcategories: competence, availability, induction, and challenge. The psychosocial domain contains three sub-categories: personal qualities, communication, and emotional support. After using the framework, induction for first-year doctoral students was smoother and more rapid, providing a cascading effect of collaboration with peers, faculty, and undergraduate students. Third- and fourth-year students learned mentoring skills that will be applicable in future roles as PETE faculty. Thus, mentoring programs utilizing Yob and Crawford’s framework may positively contribute to overall outcomes and relationships within PETE programs
