In María Zambrano’s work, poetic reason is the preferred manifestation of experiential knowledge. It contrasts with the way reason is used as an intellectual tool in philosophy and science, which severs them from life. Instead, it offers a careful approach, allowing us to consider the multiple and heterogeneous dimension of experience, thought of in its concrete and sensitive nature. Such a theory implies an attitude in existence which rejects the manner in which we conceive voluntarily our own self, and which chooses to submit to the intimate transformation demanded by the act of living and understanding. It primarily employs the poetic device of the figure in order to better grasp the event of birth, where life and death intermingle
