Cities have a special importance in understanding today's social structure. Cities are not simply spaces that can be explained, but rather comprehensive relations created by social relations before and after the capitalist mode of production. Urban sociology; developed theories in an effort to explain concepts such as the formation of cities, industrialization, and migration. These theories emphasized that the city itself should be presented as an object of analysis, as they use the city in explaining other phenomena. Urban theories; It is one of the corner stones of urban sociology because they can explain the emergence, development and rules of the city in a systematic way. The aim of this study is to discuss urban theories that explain the spatial, political, economic and social developments of cities historically. The first part of the study consists of concepts about the city. In the second chapter, Classical Urban Theories explaining the urban space in the transition period from feudalism to capitalism are discussed, in the third chapter, Chicago School Urban Theories, which enable urban sociology to emerge as a discipline, are explained, and in the fourth chapter, Critical Urban Theories that analyze cities according to capitalist capital accumulation are discussed. In this study, it has been tried to explain what has been discussed about the historical background and city issue from the emergence of theories about the city to global urban theories. Global urban theories analyzing the period after capital accumulation processes are not discussed because the article does not cover its subject
