Odelrico, bishop of Padua from 1064 to 1080, a victim of poisonous attacks during his life and after his violent death, tried to secure leadership in a society torn by the struggle for investitures and local conflicts. In addition to the “inventio” of s. Daniele, in the suburban church of Santa Giustina, according to recent research he probably promoted the renewal of the cathedral and of the other Paduan churches. Among these churches, in terms of its size and architecture, stands out the church of Santa Sofia. This paper addresses the ongoing debate over its stratigraphic sequence, which has been the subject of conflicting opinions
