Palabras clave: vejez, sustentabilidad, resiliencia, comunidad, rural Abstract In this article we explore the role of rural older adults in the construction of alternative processes of community life that translate into space of sustainability. We identify how the strengthening of the community association allows indigenous peasant communities a resilient generational and transgenerational memory in wich the structure of community care and transmission is decisively configured. Our research shows that the model of the elderly person who is retired and isolated from their community is anachronistic. The evidence indicates that its role has been decisively transmuted and it no longer supports structures that will have to do only with authority or the management of health and disease, but also with daily structures, care, production, defense of the territory and reproduction of material. Key words: old age, sustainability, resilience, community, rural
