This article examines the trajectory of Alba Cañizares do Nascimento, a 20th-century educator and activist whose contributions have remained largely invisible in thehistoriography of Brazilian education. By recovering her intellectual and pedagogicalwork, the study highlights the challenges faced and the achievements attained bywomen in the educational field, discussing the impact of her ideas and practices onpublic policies and on the renewal of school practices
