The present article explores the work A Viagem do Senhor Cogito (2016) (Podróż Pana Cogito), by the Polish poet Zbigniew Herbert (1924-1998). Throughout the text, in its translation into Portuguese, the aim is to address general poetic aspects that shape the poem “Two Drops” (Dwie krople), which opens Herbert’s first work, A Corda de luz (Struna światła), from 1956, recently translated into Portuguese. The article discusses some aspects related to the translation and reception of Herbert’s work, considering how the poet interrogates, from a critical perspective, individual and collective experience, particularly the Polish experience, in the face of the traumatic historical context of the 20th century, which forged Herbert’s lyrical voice
