O objetivo deste artigo é analisar a construção de uma narrativa de excepcionalidade pela UNITA durante a guerra de independência de Angola. Partindo de uma análise de 14 edições do boletim oficial de informações do movimento, o Kwacha-Angola, foram examinadas três estratégias de equiparação e diferenciação formuladas pela UNITA em relação aos seus oponentes para angariar apoio internacional: confecção de vocabulários de motivos, definição de um marco inaugural, e a elaboração dos seus calvários, formalizada na ideia de uma “longa marcha”. Os dados sugerem que essas estratégias foram sedimentadas como uma narrativa de superação da UNITA, que passou a integrar a cultura do grupo e foi ativada em contextos de crise
