This article examines the debate over Hegel's views on race and their place within his philosophical system. While some scholars regard his racial remarks as incidental or environmentally based, others argue they reflect a hierarchical racialism embedded in his metaphysics and methodology. The article contends that Hegel's framework links natural and cultural traits to normative and political status, shaping key concepts such as spirit, freedom and historical development. It concludes that Hegel's philosophy exemplifies philosophical racism, raising important questions about the enduring influence of his ideas on conceptions of freedom, personhood and historical progress
