– Film Uraufführung: 14.04.1959, ARD FS 14.06.1963 »Jazz Bandits« or the Fairy Tale of the Blessed Amateur. Dixieland and skiffle scene as a West German youth movement: The fictional documentary jazzbanditen – die story vom basin street club (Jazz Bandits – The Story of the Basin Street Club) reports – at the end of the 1950s – on the setting up of a music superspace under a Düsseldorf bakery. Parallel to the setting up of the room are observations of a socio-musical process of discovery in which an improvising ensemble of jazz amateurs transforms into a »jazz band«. Director Bodo Ulrich’s preferred strong contrasting of film images and frequent use of close-ups create a dense atmosphere that mirrors the group dynamic journey of the ensemble. – In the second film part, a concert sequence on a Rhine ship, regional and international Dixieland bands perform as models for the »jazz bandits«. The traditional jazz repertoire played is expanded to include popular skiffle pieces. – Film premiere: 14.04.1959, ARD FS 14.06.1963
