Educação democrática, pensamento complexo e crise civilizatória

This text analyzes Juan Miguel Batalloso Navas’ reflections on the relationship between education and democracy, in dialogue with Edgar Morin’s complex thinking and the contemporary polycrisis context, marked by global democratic recession. This is a qualitative, exploratory study developed as part of a master’s thesis in Education. The data were produced through a semi-structured interview conducted in 2022 with a foreign researcher of recognized academic standing. The material was subjected to an interpretive analysis, guided by categories constructed a posteriori. The analysis is organized around three axes: the teaching of democracy, understood as training for critical and complex thinking; the experience of democracy, conceived as a daily experience of participation and dialogue; and the defense of democracy, situated as an educational commitment in the face of authoritarian threats. Across the board, criticism of Eurocentrism and the articulation between complex thinking and Southern thinking stand out. https://doi.org/10.21723/riaee.v21i00.1927802
