The growing flows of children and adolescents (CA) migrants are calling for studies that take account of their experiences, considering questions that incorporate a focus on the fulfilment of their rights, particularly on the right to education. This paper presents results from a research project conducted on a migrant shelter in Mexico City that departs from an ethnographic approach to the research problem. The questions that guided the research pointed to knowing the migratory experiences of CA that come from countries in Central America during their stay in the shelter, paying attention to different learnings that occurred inside and outside this space, and in relation to schooling institutions. Based on a wide conception on the notion of learning and grounded on the concepts “forms of life” and “scenes of instruction” developed by Veena Das, the work describes five experiences of interaction with schools of CA residents of the shelter. In accordance with this orientation, registers of informal conversations and observations with ethnographic sensitivity were taken, using the field diary. At the same time, semi-structured interviews to the CA, their tutors, shelter workers and a school supervisor were conducted. The results suggests that the school can join the sum of actors that contribute to produce certain recovery before living traumatic situations and allows reflections upon the role of CA in the processes that expand their rights
