In this research; imam hatip secondary school students' high school preference orientations and factors affecting their orientations were examined. The aim of this study is to determine which type of high schools that students prefer and the factors that affect their preferences. The research was conducted with phenomenology (phenomenology) design, one of the qualitative research methods. The universe of the research consists of 20 students who graduated from imam-hatip secondary schools in Istanbul Kartal district. The students who were determined by using the "maximum diversity" sampling method, one of the purposive sampling methods, and who wanted to participate in the study voluntarily. According to the findings; in the pre-LGS process, while most of the students decide on their high school preferences at 8th grade during the exam preparation period, least of them decide at the beginning of secondary school; in the post-LGS process, on the other hand the tendency to make decisions increases when the exam date approaches, the students who get high scoredecide at the beginning of the secondary school so the grade level is not only the determining factor; the most effective social environment that affects students' decisions is their family members, after family members, their friends in the pre-LGS period and the school guidance service in the post-LGS period are more effective; it has been concluded that the variety of foreign language courses in the high school curriculum are effective in choosing the high school type of students with a high scores and unlike other studies in the literature, positive and negative experiences related to the type of school graduated from are effective in the high school preference orientations of the students
