In urban peripheral neighborhoods in Northeast Brazil, residents invest significant savings, labor, and time into their homes. Such investment has produced stable housing and inheritable assets for generations of residents. This article uses archival and longitudinal ethnographic data from Barra do Ceará, an urban peripheral neighborhood in Fortaleza, to investigate the daily maintenance, renovation, and upkeep that is necessary to generate stable housing in that community. It draws on the analytic concept of fixity to link the routine maintenance of housing to the regeneration of families, gender inequalities, and political agency in the urban periphery
