The rapid digitalization of daily life has created an intergenerational digital literacy gap that potentially influences family communication and the life satisfaction of Generation Z. This study aims to examine the effect of the digital literacy gap between Generation Z and parents on life satisfaction, with family communication satisfaction as a mediating variable. The research employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. Data were collected through an online survey involving 300 Generation Z respondents selected using voluntary sampling. The instruments measured three constructs: digital literacy gap, family communication satisfaction, and life satisfaction. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to test direct and indirect relationships among variables. The findings indicate that digital literacy gap has a significant effect on life satisfaction and on family communication satisfaction. Family communication satisfaction also shows a significant positive influence on life satisfaction. Mediation analysis reveals that family communication satisfaction partially mediates the relationship between digital literacy gap and life satisfaction. These results suggest that intergenerational differences in digital competence are not merely technical issues but relational factors that shape the quality of family interaction and psychological well-being of Generation Z respondents. Strengthening parents’ digital literacy and improving supportive communication patterns within families are essential strategies to enhance life satisfaction in the digital era and to reduce negative impacts arising from intergenerational digital disparities.
