The ABO, MNSs and Rhesus blood group systems were investigated in Israeli Jews. In total 1452 individuals were tested for ABO blood groups and of these, 955 for MNSs and 943 for Rhe sus blood group systems. Six groups deriving from Eastern, Central and Southern Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and Yemen were compared. The frequencies of the phenotypes, genes and gene-complexes were calculated. The shortest genetic distance was found between the East Eu ropean and Central European groups. Next to these were the South European and the Middle Ea stern groups. The higher values in the genetic distance indices were observed between the Yemenite and the other groups.
