A pantheon is an overview of a given culture's gods and goddesses and reflects not only the society's values but also its sense of itself. This chapter discusses the Germanic pantheon, which includes the Norse and Saxon deities, and the Celtic pantheon, which includes the gods and goddesses associated with Wales, Scotland, Cornwall, and especially Ireland. It provides a background of both Germanic and Celtic mythology and examines some of their rituals and festivals. This chapter also describes the characteristics of various Norse, Saxon, and Celtic deities, and provides narratives which demonstrate concepts such as compacting peace between warring gods, sacrifice, oath-taking, and other rituals.
