The Targums are translations of the Hebrew Bible that combine into one seamless text straightforward translation and exegetical embellishments. In this chapter I will examine those texts in the Targums to the Law and the Prophets (according to the traditional division of the Hebrew canon) that discuss a yeṣer and which belong to a stratum of the Targum that is likely to be early, by which I mean that their substantive forms are likely to have their origins in the Tannaitic period.
