This article summarizes what sustainable supply chain management ( SSCM ) is and how creating more sustainable supply chains likely impacts supply chain performance. It then critically details what practices differentiate best practice in SSCM from more traditional supply chain management. The focus is on how to become more sustainable because researchers now recognize that all supply chains will have to move in this direction to survive in a world of reduced resource availability and higher stakeholder expectations.
