*** Sound recordings that gramophone companies recorded with Slovenian musicians and singers in the early 20th century are an important insight into the sonority of the time. The image about the music would be entirely different if only the data about recordings and sheet music would be available. The article focus is on recordings of vocal ensembles of music society Glasbena matica and in addition to the musicians, repertoire and recordings also represents an interpretation of some sound recordings. Based on this data's it opens up a broader question about the relationship between folk and art music of the time.
