Zoltán Dörnyei (1960–2022) has contributed greatly to our understanding of how individual differences affect the outcomes of second and foreign language learning. He was most well known for his work on language‐learning motivation, but his research on communication strategies also advanced the field of psycholinguistics. He is also the author of two very popular books on research methodology: Questionnaires in Second Language Research: Construction, Administration, and Processing (Dörnyei, 2010) and Research Methods in Applied Linguistics: Quantitative, Qualitative and Mixed Methodologies (Dörnyei, 2007). After the publication of the current biographical note in 2012, he published a number of empirical articles and monographs.
