The article gives a review of the sociology of sports organizations and hence of the sports organizations in West Germany. The most significant characteristic is that sport is here chiefly offered by voluntary associations. The overview of the results is made on the basis of system-theoretical arrangement. The organization is presented with its aims, and structure (mesosociology) in interaction with the members' (microsociology) and the outside world (macrosociology of the organization). The resume shows that the sociology of sports organizations in West Germany has made good progress in only a few years
