Maria Elena Indelicato previously interviewed the authors of Fascism and the Women's Cause on the occasion of the publication of the book, Fractured: Race, Class, Gender, and the Hatred of Identity Politics (Indelicato, Charnley, and Richmond, 2022). In this interview, Indelicato invites Alex Charnley and Michael Richmond to highlight the contemporary political issues they felt compelled to address through the historical analysis presented in this book, as they did in their previous work. The interview comprises three questions and responses, each of which explores the historical relationship between feminism and fascism, and the use of ‘the women's cause’ as a rallying call for seemingly disparate movements. In the process of unravelling these relationships, the authors critically engage with what they define as ‘gender-critical politics of feminist remembrance’ and ‘the politics of women’s remembrance’, as well as how cisnormativity has periodically been made and challenged.
