As economic development may be viewed as a type of environmental change, an ecological or systems approach was selected for analyzing certain data from two Out Island Bahamian communties that have been differentially exposed to economic changes. More specifically, it was asserted that differential exposure to economic development (an environmental variable) would lead the two populations to change their vocational preferences (a system variable) in predictable ways. It was further asserted that different locations in time (e.g., age) and space (i.e., place of residence) would lead individuals and groups to differing perceptions, evaluations, and behavioral decisions
