This paper examines aspects of kinship change in a Turkish town which has recently undergone a series of dramatic changes including the input of a modern sugar refinery and increased social and economic integration with the more urban and advanced cities of Turkey. A more dynamic and relevant approach to the study of kinship change is proposed which deals with people's goals, the ways these goals change through time, and the ways individuals interact with their kin to attain these goals.This study finds that within the context of a more modern socioeconomic structure basic kinship goals such as postmarital residence, ideal household composition, and spouse selection have changed and that
