The Brown and Stone sample of collective bargaining schools is redefined by selecting the collective bargaining unit (which may include several campuses under a common contract) as the unit of observation rather than the individual campus. The application of the Brown and Stone methodology to the redefined sample results in the reaffirmation of the Morgan and Kearney conclusion that collective bargaining in higher education was associated with increased compensation as of the academic year 1974-75. Further testing reveals that the disparate results obtained by Brown and Stone were due to the different terminal year employed in their study rather than the methodological deficiencies of the Morgan and Kearney study as claimed by Brown and Stone
