This article examines how children's encyclopedias construct the biological body, arguing that they naturalize socially and symbolically attributed qualities to males and females. By analyzing the distribution of organs described for each sex, the language used, and the employed metaphors, Détrez demonstrates how these encyclopedias, under the guise of scientific explanation, instill social norms and justify gender roles through biological explanations. The study reveals how the difference between sexes and the differentiation of roles are justified and grounded in nature through the biological explanations disseminated to children
