Las evidencias de los sitios Pampa El Muerto 3 (PM-3), Pampa El Muerto 8 (PM-8) y Tangani 1 (TAN-1) permiten reafirmar que el arte rupestre de la precordillera en el extremo norte de Chile se asocia a una colonizacin ms bien tarda de este espacio, hace 7000 aos AP. Su ocupacin por cazadores recolectores se intensific hacia fines del Arcaico (ca. 6000-3700 aos AP) perdurando hasta el Formativo Tardo (ca. 1500 aos AP), y luego reiterarse en los perodos Intermedio Tardo y Tardo (800-500 aos AP
