Internationalization of Brazil's governing elites. One important dimension of the internationalization of the elites responsible for Brazil's macro-economic policies is the academic training they received abroad, and in particular in the United States. This process can be defined as the systematic adoption, by Brazilian institutions of higher education and research, of the theoretical and methodological models used in developed countries, especially in the United States. In this sense, the internationalization of economic studies is synonymous with their Americanization. The fact that Brazilian economists have been trained in American universities has fostered the emergence, among the members of these elites, of political and ideological orientations and theoretical paradigms which are relatively homogeneous, thereby exacerbating the gap between them and those economic elites advocating opposing theories and policies. The article shows how the credit acquired through these international relations is mobilized by this elite in the country's political infighting, and how the more an economist is part of the international circuit, the more he is recognized and the more the decisions he takes in a government post will be seen as legitimate
