As part of an ongoing research project, this paper presents a spatial analysis study that uses geographic information systems (GIS). It integrates the main Early Formative settlements with the new evidence gathered in prospecting activities along the water course at the bottom of the Guatacondo ravine. This research aims to understand Formative period processes from the perspective of different ways of settlement, the immediate surroundings and the landscape through semimicroanalysis. It seeks to expand and enrich the concept of village life limited to a central settlement. Identifying 411 sites, researchers use the concepts of intensity and functionality to establish four different areas (A, B, C and D) and segregate ravine settlements into two socially significant units.
