In the late 1990s Françoise Héritier and Pierre Bourdieu published, with an interval ofonly two years between them, Masculin/Feminin,la pensée de la différence (1996), and La domination masculine (1998), respectively. Dealing with thehierarchical construction of the difference betweenmale and female, both books present a perspecti-ve that is, if not skeptical, at least little optimisticconcerning the discourses that announce possibledisplacements or even the erasure of “difference”.Instead of pointing out the significant distance be-tween these authors in dealing with the issue, thisarticle proposes a reflection on the topics in whichtheir perspectives converge
